What is a desert safari in Sharm El Sheikh?
The Sinai desert begins just inland from the resorts. A safari picks you up from your hotel in an air-conditioned bus and takes you to a safari station on the edge of the desert, where you set off on a quad bike or dune buggy in a guided convoy. Every safari stops at a Bedouin camp or village for tea; the evening safaris add a camel ride, dinner and a show.

Best time to go
October to April is the most comfortable season. From June to September choose the early-morning quad safari or an evening safari to avoid the midday heat. Winter evenings in the desert are cool, so bring a warm layer.
What to wear and bring
- Closed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dusty
- A scarf and sunglasses or goggles against the dust (not included)
- Sun cream and a hat for daytime safaris
- A light jacket for evening safaris in winter
- Some cash for drinks, photos and tips
Safety
You get a helmet and a briefing, ride in a guided group, and no experience or driving licence is needed. Children ride as passengers with a parent driving. Follow the guide's line, keep your distance from the rider in front and tell the guide if you want to go slower.
