Which desert safari should you choose?
- Quad safari (3 hours): the classic. About 1 hour 20 minutes on the quad, with a stop at a Bedouin village for Arabic tea. Morning or afternoon departures.
- Dune buggy safari (3 hours): you sit side by side, so it suits couples and anyone who would rather not ride a quad alone. Family buggies seat four.
- Super Safari (evening): quad ride, camel ride at sunset, open-air Bedouin dinner, then tanoura, belly dance and fire show. Back at your hotel around 21:30.
- Super Sand Buggy Safari (evening): a buggy ride with a stop at the Echo Temple rock formation, Bedouin tea, dinner and the evening show.
What a typical safari looks like
Pickup is from your hotel lobby. At the safari station you get a helmet and a short briefing, then ride out in a guided convoy across the desert, with photo stops along the way. Halfway through you stop at a Bedouin camp to rest, drink tea and meet the families who live in the desert, before riding back.
No experience is needed: you get a safety briefing before you start and ride in a guided group. A driving licence is not required for quads or buggies on these desert tracks.
Morning, afternoon or evening?
From June to September the midday desert is very hot, so most people choose the early-morning quad safari or the afternoon one, which finishes in the softer light of late afternoon. The evening Super Safari is the most social option, with dinner and entertainment after the ride. In winter, evenings in the desert are cool — bring a light jacket.
