Diving in Sharm El Sheikh: Try Scuba Without a Licence

Sharm El Sheikh is one of the best-known places to dive in the Red Sea. There are coral reefs right off the coast, and the reefs of Ras Mohammed National Park and Tiran Island are a boat ride away.

You don't need a licence or any experience to try it. On an introductory dive, a professional instructor briefs you, stays next to you underwater and controls the dive. We offer three ways to do it, all with the equipment and hotel pickup included.

What happens on an introductory dive

  • The instructor explains the equipment, how to breathe through the regulator and the hand signals you will use underwater.
  • You put on the equipment in your size, and the instructor checks everything.
  • You go down slowly with the instructor beside you. They control your depth and stay with you for the whole dive.
  • You spend 10–20 minutes over the coral, depending on the trip, then come back up together.

Who can dive?

You don't have to be a strong swimmer, but you should be comfortable in the water. Children can dive from age 10 on the shore dive and the Ras Mohammed trip; for the Tiran trip, ask us.

Talk to your doctor before you book if you have heart or lung problems, asthma, epilepsy, ear or sinus problems, if you're pregnant or if you take regular medication. Don't dive with a cold or a blocked nose.

Before you go

  • For the boat trips, send us a copy of your passport at least one day before: boats to Ras Mohammed and Tiran Island need a permit.
  • There is no prepayment: you pay at the start of the trip. Dives booked on the boat itself can cost more.
  • Friends who don't dive can join the boat trips to snorkel; they bring or rent their own snorkeling equipment, and we'll tell you their price.
  • Don't plan your dive for your last day: diving organisations generally advise waiting at least 12–18 hours before flying.

Already have a licence?

Our trips are introductory dives for beginners. If you already dive and are looking for fun dives, a course or a liveaboard, send us your level and your dates on WhatsApp and we'll tell you what we can arrange.

Prefer to snorkel?

If you'd rather stay on the surface, the Ras Mohammed and Tiran Island boat trips are full days of snorkeling for €30 per adult and €20 per child aged 6–11, with lunch on board and a free life jacket.
