Where to stay
- Naama Bay: the original resort centre, with a beach, a pedestrian promenade and plenty of restaurants within walking distance.
- Sharks Bay and Nabq Bay: north of Naama Bay towards the airport, with large resorts and their own reefs.
- Hadaba and Ras Um Sid: south of Naama Bay near the Old Market, with good reef snorkeling straight from the shore.
- Old Market (Sharm El Maya): the old town, with local restaurants, a market and the Al Sahaba Mosque.
Getting there and around
Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (SSH) is north of the resort area, with direct flights from many European cities. Taxis are the usual way to get around — agree the fare before you set off — and many hotels run shuttles to Naama Bay. Our tours all include pickup from your hotel.
Visa and entry
Many visitors can get a visa on arrival or an e-visa in advance. Some nationalities staying only in the South Sinai resorts can enter with a free Sinai-only entry stamp for short stays, but it does not allow travel to places such as Cairo or Luxor. Rules change, so check the current requirements for your nationality before you travel.
Money and tipping
The currency is the Egyptian pound (EGP). Hotels and most tourist businesses take cards, and euros are widely accepted for tours and excursions; carry small notes for markets, taxis and tips. Tipping guides, drivers and restaurant staff is customary.
What to wear
Beachwear is normal at resorts and on boats. In town, and especially when visiting mosques, cover shoulders and knees. Bring a light jacket in winter: evenings in the desert and on boats can be cool from December to February.
Sun, sea and safety
- The sun is strong year-round: use high-factor, reef-safe sun cream and drink plenty of water.
- Never stand on or touch coral, and don't feed fish.
- In Ras Mohammed National Park, swimming and snorkeling require a life jacket.
- Drink bottled water.

- The reefs of Tiran Island
