Quad, Buggy, Camel or Jeep? How to Choose Your Desert Safari in Sharm El Sheikh

Every hotel in Sharm El Sheikh sells a desert safari, but they are very different trips. Here is how the quad, buggy and evening safaris compare, what each costs, and which one suits you.
"Desert safari" covers a lot of different trips in Sharm El Sheikh: a short quad ride before breakfast, an afternoon behind the wheel of a buggy, or a whole evening with a camel ride, Bedouin dinner and show. They all include hotel pickup and a stop with Bedouin tea, but the experience, the price and the best time to go are quite different. Here is how to choose.
The quick answer
- Want one evening that covers everything? The Super Safari: quad, sunset camel ride, Bedouin dinner and a show, from €24.
- Want to drive, and you're on a budget? A 3-hour quad safari from €15.
- Want to drive, but side by side with a partner or your kids? The dune buggy safari, €17 per person sharing or €45 for a family buggy for four.
- Want to drive a buggy and have dinner in the desert? The Super Sand Buggy Safari, from €25 per person sharing.
Quad bike safaris
A quad (ATV) is a four-wheeled motorbike: you ride it alone, steering with handlebars and a thumb throttle. Our 3-hour quad safaris run in the morning or after lunch and include 1 hour 20 minutes of riding, a visit to a Bedouin village for tea, and hotel pickup.
- Price: €15 per adult, €17 with a camel ride; children aged 6–12 €7 (€10 with a camel ride); under-6s free.
- Suits: first-timers, solo travellers, anyone who wants to ride on their own.
- Good to know: you'll get dusty, so bring a scarf and sunglasses. Our quad biking guide covers what to expect on your first ride.
Dune buggies
A buggy is a small open car with a roll cage, a steering wheel and pedals, so it feels familiar if you drive. Two people sit side by side, and a family buggy takes four.
- Price: €25 for one person alone, €17 each for two sharing, €45 for a family buggy for four.
- Suits: couples, families, and anyone who'd rather drive than ride a bike.
- The ride: 1 hour 20 minutes through the desert with a stop at a Bedouin tent for tea; the whole trip takes about 3 hours.
Evening safaris with dinner
If you'd rather have one long evening than a short ride, two tours add the sunset and a dinner at a Bedouin camp:
- The Super Safari (€24 per adult, €11 per child aged 6–12) combines a quad ride with a camel ride at sunset, an open-air barbecue dinner and a show with tanoura, belly dancing and fire. Pickup is late afternoon; you're back around 21:30.
- The Super Sand Buggy Safari swaps the quad for a 1-hour buggy ride and stops at the Echo Temple before dinner and the show. The camel ride is optional.
We compare the two in detail in Super Safari or Super Sand Buggy Safari?.
Camel rides
Camel rides aren't sold separately, but you can add one to a quad safari for €2 extra, and the Super Safari includes a camel ride at sunset. It's a slow, gentle ride, and the easiest way for nervous travellers or older guests to enjoy the desert.
What about jeep safaris?
Jeep safaris, where a driver takes your group across the desert in a 4x4, are popular in Sinai, but we don't run them. If you want the desert without driving yourself, the closest options are the Super Safari, where the camel ride and dinner are the main event, or a buggy where someone else in your group takes the wheel.
How to choose: four questions
- Do you want to drive? Yes: quad (alone) or buggy (side by side). No: the Super Safari's camel ride and dinner.
- Morning, afternoon or evening? From June to September, the morning quad or the evening safaris avoid the midday heat. In winter, any time is pleasant, but bring a warm layer for the evening.
- Who's coming? Young children are easiest in a family buggy or on the Super Safari with child prices.
- What's your budget? Quad €15, buggy €17 sharing, Super Safari €24, Super Sand Buggy €25 sharing. All include hotel pickup.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best desert safari in Sharm El Sheikh?
It depends on what you want. The Super Safari is the best all-in-one evening (quad, camel ride, Bedouin dinner and show, €24). For pure driving, the 3-hour quad safari (€15) or the dune buggy safari (€17 per person sharing) are the best value.
How much does a desert safari in Sharm El Sheikh cost?
Our desert safaris cost from €15 (3-hour quad safari) to €25 per person sharing (Super Sand Buggy Safari with dinner and show). All prices include hotel pickup and drop-off.
Do you offer jeep safaris in Sharm El Sheikh?
No. We run quad, buggy and camel safaris. If you don't want to drive, the Super Safari's sunset camel ride and Bedouin dinner are the closest alternative.
Is a quad or a buggy better for beginners?
Both are fine for beginners after the safety briefing. A buggy feels more like a car and suits people who want a passenger beside them; a quad suits those who want to ride on their own.
